What is the best month for fishing in Alaska? I get it. You are about to book a trip to Alaska. You want to go salmon fishing or halibut fishing in Juneau. When should you go, what is the best month for fishing in Juneau?
Ask ten different captains that question and you’ll get ten different answers! It also depends on where in Alaska you are going. My answer would be the best month for fishing in Alaska, specifically Juneau, is June, July or August. Within each month there are different salmon runs but we have no way of knowing how strong the run would be. Halibut fishing in Juneau is most dependable late June, July and August.
We also often get asked when to visit for a limit of fishing salmon versus particular months when the fishing is slower. Call Captain Alan to discuss the best opportunities as the main objective is to set you up for success, but do remember it’s still called “fishing” whether you are fishing for salmon or halibut in Alaska or walleye in Minnesota.
If all things were equal and I could pick one particular time frame to visit Alaska to go fishing, it would be August. August is my favorite month to fish because the cohos begin to return then build. We also still have some pink salmon around and there is always the possibility of catching a king salmon. Additionally there are also halibut in the area, so we have plenty to choose from when it comes to target species.
